Proceedings in the Senate
After the Chamber of Deputies passed the draft bill for the amendment of the Water Code, the discussion in Senate began in November 2016, where it was being analyzed in the Water Resources, Desertification and Drought Committee (“WRDDC”).
On April 12, 2017, the Bachelet Government as along with the WRDDC submitted modifications to the draft bill. On May 2, 2017, the WRDDC approved the main ideas of the draft bill and later, it voted every previously submitted modification. During the process in the Senate the Government submitted modifications in 2019, 20202 and 2021 to the draft bill.
After the analysis of the WRDD and the committees of Agriculture and Treasury the bill with modifications was approved by the Senate, on August 4,2021, passing the third constitutional process the House of Representatives.
On September 7, 2021, the House of Representatives communicated the rejection to some modification introduced by the Senate and designated the representatives that will formed the Joint Committee. And on September 21, the Senate designates the senators that formed that Committee.
On January 5, 2022, the Joint Committe discussed the discussed the divergences that arose during the processing of the bill and settled the discussion on 18 articles. They dispatched the bill to the House of Representatives for vote.
On January 11, 2022, the House of Representatives approved the bill and dispatched the bill to the Senate for vote. Finally, the Senate approved the Bill on January 12, 2022.
